As someone who didn't grow up in the US, I don't have a large family here, nor do we have any thanksgiving traditions outside of turkey or ham for dinner. But I wanted to learn some new traditions, specially some I can do with adults as my kids are in college.
I'm thinking of reading a book on rationalism and critical thinking. Where do you usually go first for recommendations?
People are losing trust in mainstream media because of perceived biased coverage of the Gaza genocide. If that erosion of trust is real, why isn't it prompting wider public re-examination of historical cover-ups and contested narratives — Watergate, Iran–Contra, Iraq, even shifting beliefs about who “beat” the Nazis? If we don't question how past information was shaped, what’s the point of preserving evidence (e.g., Gaza genocide evidence recently removed from YouTube by Google)? Won’t this all be forgotten in a few years, the same way all those previous events are no longer discussed? ... read full post

I started playing diatomic harmonica, recently. I've been following some YouTube how-to videos, feels like a nice start. Now I'm looking for some easy blues harmonica sheet music ... I don't mind paying for something, although free is nice too ... but web searches are only displaying cheap online courses. Can anyone recommend a book or website?
I can read harmonica tab.

From Andor s02e06. They were explaining how the relics in the room are used, but they skipped that one.

I have 8BitDo to control my PC remotely. But sometimes I need mouse navigation for browser. In KDE in accessibility settings I can enable mouse navigation with numpad and bind numpad keys to the dpad. But I'll lose regular keyboard navigation this way. ... read full post
I’ve been exploring how different platforms decide what reaches the front page, and I’m interested in which ranking algorithms you know and which you think work best. Here are a few examples with links to their explanations: ... read full post
Look, I don't believe that an AGI is possible or atleast within the next few decade. But I was thinking about, if one came to be, how can we differentiate it from a Large Language Model (LLM) that has read every book ever written by humans? ... read full post
I need windows for work reasons. I have mint on my home machines. I just don't want 11. Is there any tool out there to force a downgrade? or will I have to do a fresh install? Trying to avoid that since work software.

Like I don't have space in my life right now to do a whole lot of actual tinkering but google is pissing me off and I just remember in middle school just being able to change the boot order in the bios and plug in a usb stick and a few hours later having mint installed. What's the easiest way to get a clean de-googled os on my phone? ... read full post

Mine is the 1970s animated version of The Hobbit.
I want a McDonald's. There's something specific about the smell of mcdonalds food in the bag, like a mix of grease, beef, potatoes, and recycled paper products that make me feel like a heroin user getting the first hit of the day

I don't recall that ever happening with any other foodstuff.

Is there a real difference in water and electricity consumption? Personally, I don't use a lot of water to wash my dishes (by hand), but maybe I should install a flow meter to make sure.
What is your opinion on the subject? Do you have any evidence or studies available that could confirm your intuition? Or do you have other alternatives in mind?
Acapella lets me just outright buy a voice and download it for offline use but the voices are somewhat dated now. I don't mind large on device library and I don't mind paying once, but I want it to sound good and I want it to work 100% offline (and privately). Also would like a male voice if possible, I know most people seem to prefer female voices I guess, I've noticed male ones are harder to find. ... read full post
