who thought using its ".lst" and ".kbd" files for Hyprland was a good idea when there are almost no easily findable references online to these files
The topic of the Rust experiment was just discussed at the annual Maintainers Summit. The consensus among the assembled developers is that Rust in the kernel is no longer experimental — it is now a core part of the kernel and is here to stay. So the "experimental" tag will be coming off. Congratulations are in order for all of the Rust for Linux team.
Been Manjaro for years and years. Latest update (due to my own screw-up...not the distro's fault) shit the bed and corrupted my timeshift backups (again...my fault...not the distro) ... read full post
Hi Linux Lemmites. Recently finished up school and started working full time and kind of miss working on personal projects. I’m looking to try to make something in rust and try out gpui if I can figure it out or maybe egui. I also want to make something maybe even a handful of people would actually use as I find that motivating, so I ask what would actually be useful to you? ... read full post
TL;DR - About switching from Linux Mint to Qubes OS from among various other options that try to provide security out-of-the-box (also discussed: OpenBSD, SculptOS, Ghaf, GrapheneOS)
Old cameras but they have been sitting.
What can I use to record and ensure the data is saved locally. Nothing serious, just chickens being accused of hurting plants when they are monitored. I just want to catch whatever it is (deer? Etc?) eating it so I can have evidence it isn't them
Spotify, freetube, youtube website, either it's a streaming issue or an audio playback issue. Whenever my cpu is working too hard audio playback stutters and delays making it unlistenable. Actually some games have alright audio so I think it's a streaming issue. Anyway I want to know how to prioritise sound streaming or playback cpu in linux?

I mean, who thought of this as a good idea? I find it rather distracting. I'm trying to SSH into a computer and blam...a massive pop-up blocks me from reading what was before or anything else...just the pop-up in front, blocking text. It has the hidden password text field thing, but this one is to type yes/no to whether accept the server's cert. Y hit enter after typing yes...and blam, another pop-up, this one is for the actual password. ... read full post
Still pretty new to Linux, I'm on Ubuntu Studio 24.04 LTS and had some issues with updates through the updater with errors and so I did sudo apt update/upgrade instead. Something went wrong and had errors, and after a reboot I had no internet access, Ethernet or WiFi, and no options to connect to anything. Running sudo lshw -c network showed unclaimed networks. ... read full post
I realized I always make a source folder under home and then subfolders named after programming languages to organize projects but then I realized I somehow had my own convention for how to store my source code and I have no idea where I got it from
Then I thought. what about other Linux users ?
What sorts of conventions do you have that pertains to folder structure in Linux ?
I have been getting monitor tearing time to time, even with windows. It wasn't occurring often, and I could fix it by turning the monitor off and on, so I have been sleeping on it. ... read full post

So, I finally got my #oneplus6 out from the shop.... That was the worst experience ever and they're a long-time spot I go to... That's a whole other story. #enshifification Anyway, the one plus (#ihavejokes) is that the battery replacement went great. I've expressed some reservation switching from my #pixel3a to the op6... But man. I'm happy. Nothing Fancy... ... read full post

I’ve used OpenMediaVault for years and liked it, but I’m just exploring some other options. I’ve got a new system with a Ryzen 370 and 890m iGPU, which Debian is fighting me on getting working. Meanwhile it looks like AMD is treating Ubuntu as a first class citizen for support. Just considering options, maybe Ubuntu plus Cockpit to abstract all the admin stuff?
