600 bucks from a procedure where my insurance didn't pay the anesthesiologist despite covering the anesthesia. I guess we are expected to inject that shit ourselves.
Taking the cake though is a 400 bill from a procedure 2 years ago (!) where there are adjustments or something? I don't fucking know this is incomprehensible. That one also landed 120 days past due.
I pay 800 a month in premiums to cover my family and I am sure my employer pays another 800.

::: spoiler Yes, CW for child hospitalization
A few years ago my child had a cardiac event that hospitalized them for three months. Unfortunately my kid nearly died multiple times between the months of November and December, but was doing well by January when they were discharged. You see, in our system, you should really choose to have your life-threatening health episodes in the summer, far away from when you deductible resets.

That's so scary, every parent's nightmare. I hope your baby is feeling better.

Clean bill of health now. Well sorta. Their condition, a type of cardiomyopathy, sometimes comes back during puberty. At that point they’ll be able to recognize prodromal symptoms like rapid heart rate or murmurs, and they’d receive surgical treatment. But a 4-month-old doesn’t know anything is wrong until they go into shock.
One of the horrors upon horrors I experienced was the hours of waiting on phone calls talking to claims adjusters while feeding my child through an NG tube. My partner and I are lucky enough be able to withstand the brunt of the financial blow. But we essentially had to pay twice for our child’s hospital stay. We are also lucky enough to have the time and knowledge to sift through claims, checking for duplicates or misdated procedures. The vast majority of people do not have that luxury. You try to pay what they tell you because what else are you gonna do? Fight it? Take hours and hours of the limited time you have after work away from your loved one to argue with people on the phone and write emails to your health care company? You either pay up, fight charges, or (allegedly) do a bada bing.

Genuinely feel like it’s more cost effective to not have insurance than having the privilege of paying for a service that you can’t use. Thinking of cancelling my medical insurance

legitimately, i think the real move at this point (besides leaving this charnal house for a less evil country) is to keep the insurance and just never, ever pay those extra medical bills. claim ignorance if confronted, don't respond, etc. medical debt has weird rules for collections, though now the CFPB is gone im sure the collections organizations are running wild.
but anyway, without insurance, many/most places (besides the ER) won't even help you unless you give them money upfront, so the insurance will at least let you get treated and deal with the active danger.

I understand insurance won't discharge to your provider until you've paid your copay, so I'd at least make sure that base is covered. Not sure of the ins and outs of that though.

Just spent 5K aud to be able to use my left arm properly! I think public health covers 800 of that? Australian healthcare for "elective" surgery is a joke. If I waited like 2 years per arm (needed both done) I could have had it done public but I needed my life back.

Anybody else get medical bills for Christmas?
