This isn't targeting people's insecurities. It is giving out some pretty straightforward (and honestly, obvious) information.
Who is ugly and who is beautiful has a significant impact on our world and our lives. Via research, we can create a decent approximation of what constitutes these standards within and across cultures. We can thus study the phenomenon and use the knowledge to improve our lives. Trying to surpress the study of this subject or the dissemination of researchers' findings is actively anti-scientific.
