A public conference regarding scholarships offered by the Chinese government for the year 2026 was held on December 3, 2025 at the Aube Nouvelle University in Ouagadougou.

This meeting, organized for students of the institution, is part of a partnership between Aube Nouvelle University and the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Burkina Faso. It aims to offer students the opportunity to benefit from scholarships to pursue their studies in China.

The Chinese ambassador to Burkina Faso, Zhao Deyong, presented the strengths of the Chinese university system and the opportunities it offers to Burkinabe students. He emphasized the increasing quality of higher education in China, driven by the country's technological, economic, and scientific advancements.

“China is now one of the most attractive destinations for international students due to the quality of its education, the lower cost of studies, and a learning environment considered safe and welcoming,” he stated. He noted that more than 80,000 African students are currently pursuing their studies in China, compared to only 10,000 in the early 2000s.

Zhao Deyong also emphasized the close ties between the Chinese and African people, stating that Burkinabe students integrate easily. He encouraged those who are apprehensive about the Chinese language, reminding them that "everything starts out difficult . "

The ambassador announced that 20 government scholarships are currently being awarded to Burkinabe students, and assured them that steps are being taken to expand these opportunities. Students can also apply individually or through Chinese companies operating in Burkina Faso. He concluded by inviting the scholarship recipients to return and contribute to Burkina Faso's development after completing their studies, emphasizing that youth remain central to Sino-Burkinabe cooperation.

Lancina Ki, general manager of Aube Nouvelle University, reaffirmed the institution's commitment to offering its students the best opportunities, both in Burkina Faso and abroad. "Several students are already pursuing their studies in China and are excelling there, which is proof of the strong partnership between us and China ," he explained.

According to him, interest in the Chinese language continues to grow on campus, forcing the university to open new classes to meet the demand. He sees this trend as a strong sign of the promising future of academic relations between China and Burkina Faso. "China today is the future ," he declared.

He also welcomed the Chinese ambassador's willingness to work towards increasing the number of scholarships, in order to allow more students to seize this opportunity for professional and international development.
