Ouagadougou, November 27, 2025 (AIB) – The Council of Ministers adopted two decrees relating to the increase of the State's participation in the capital of the Public Transport Company (SOTRACO) and the takeover of shares held by various private shareholders.
Created in 2004, SOTRACO, whose initial share capital of 800 million CFA francs was increased to 5 billion CFA francs in 2024, recorded a financial deficit of nearly 200 million CFA francs in the same year.
As part of the Presidential Initiative for Quality Education, the State recently acquired 500 buses to strengthen the capacities of SOTRACO and improve urban mobility for pupils, students and the population.
The first decree adopted aims to increase the State's participation in the company's share capital, in view of its strategic role in the implementation of the presidential initiative for quality education.
The second decree authorises the State to take over 36,075 shares, or 8.39% of the share capital, held by private shareholders.
The adoption of these two decrees now consecrates the total takeover of SOTRACO by the State and should allow for a new management dynamic in order to better support the government's policy on urban mobility.
