"Our bodies subjugated," "a femicide that takes our lives," "a capitalism that makes life precarious": this is how women from different parts of the world recognized their struggle this Tuesday, November 25, when the International Day to Eliminate Violence against Women is commemorated .

With mobilizations in various cities around the world , women are demanding the elimination of gender-based violence , but above all, the preservation of life. Women gathered this Tuesday demanding an end to femicides, dignified motherhood and life, respect for nature, opposition to extractivism, and collective care as a way to redefine existence.

In Quito, the capital of Ecuador, women gathered to protest against the government of President Daniel Noboa . They denounced the structural violence of a neoliberal model that undermines their lives, their bodies, and their territories.

They added that under Noboa's government , "the State has been dismantled piece by piece, leaving them more exposed, more alone and more unprotected against all forms of violence."

Telesur's correspondent in Ecuador, Elena Rodríguez , reported that at the Circasiana Arch in the Ecuadorian capital, dozens of women gathered to march for the eradication of violence against women.

"They arrived with scarves, flowers, and purple signs: a color they claim as their own, because—they recall—it was born in feminist struggles long before any political party tried to appropriate it . Purple is the historical color of the women's movement since the beginning of the 20th century, when the suffragettes adopted it as a symbol of dignity, justice, and freedom," she noted.

She also added that "today, in Ecuador , (purple) once again colors the streets to say that women's lives are not negotiable , cannot be disguised, and cannot be exploited. That purple belongs to those who have marched, resisted, and wept in their name, not to those who govern at the moment."

Other women also took to the streets. Santiago, Chile, witnessed this. They likewise denounced the rise of fascism and warned of a potential victory for the far right in the upcoming presidential elections.

Women join in denouncing that in 2024 alone, 3,828 women were murdered for gender-related reasons in 26 countries and territories of Latin America and the Caribbean , an average of 11 every day.

According to these reports from the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean ( ECLAC ), 19,254 women were victims of femicide in the last five years in the region.

Furthermore, estimates from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) indicate that one in three women aged 15 or older has suffered physical or sexual violence at least once in their lifetime .

In Colombia, faced with a reality that has already murdered more than 176 social leaders, and that has left more than 75 people killed during massacres reported by the Institute of Studies for Development and Peace (Indepaz), the Observatory of Femicides Colombia reported 621 femicides from last January to September 2025.

Among these victims are 71 Afro-descendant , Black, Raizal, and Palenquera women. The same report recorded 14 trans femicides during that period, demonstrating how lethal violence also targets trans women.
