12 November, Minsk /BelTA/. Trade union specialists in all regions will monitor stabilization funds from this month until May 2026, the press service of the Federation of Trade Unions told BelTA.
The FPB recalled that earlier this year, trade union public reception offices, which receive weekly inquiries from citizens regarding the situation in the consumer market, received reports of the absence or poor quality of domestically produced fruit and vegetable products. All these inquiries were reviewed with site visits, and in most cases, the facts were confirmed.
In this regard, trade unions have joined the monitoring of the formation and use of stabilization funds. From this month until May 2026, trade union specialists in all regions will pay attention not only to the quantity of vegetables stored but also to storage conditions to ensure the products maintain their quality and properties.
"Stabilization funds play a crucial role in maintaining stability in the consumer market, especially during the off-season. When supplies from the previous harvest naturally dwindle in the spring, and the new harvest hasn't arrived yet, stabilization funds ensure that retail outlets have high-quality fruit and vegetable produce at affordable prices. This is an important mechanism that helps smooth out potential seasonal fluctuations and provides the population with essential goods regardless of the time of year," noted Dmitry Alekseychik, Head of the Main Department of Social Partnership and Labor Relations of the FPB. "We saw the anxiety people experienced when they couldn't find their usual products in stores during a certain period. While this was a short period of time, the situation with potato availability, for example, quickly resolved itself. However, situations involving the sale of substandard products are unacceptable. Therefore, our task is to ensure that the funds we have established are ready to supply the market with high-quality produce. And we will be ready to lend a helping hand if necessary."
In parallel with monitoring vegetable storage facilities, trade unions will also conduct "public monitoring" at retail outlets across the country. The availability and quality of Belarusian-made borscht is under scrutiny. If any unusual situations arise, the relevant government agencies will be notified.
Furthermore, trade union representatives continue to receive comments and suggestions from citizens in regional centers and in Minsk as a whole regarding the situation in the consumer market. You can contact the "people's controllers" in person through public reception offices every Thursday from 11:30 AM to 8:30 PM. Inquiries are also accepted online, using the special "Report Price Issues" form. Full details are available on the official FPB website.
