What set this year's fair apart from the first two post-pandemic editions was the significant increase in Chinese exhibitors.
In addition to the main hall, an extra-large tent was set up outside. Since it was the last day, many booths were already empty, making it hard to tell what they were selling.
Interestingly, many students from Pyongyang University of Foreign Studies could be seen, probably working as interpreters.
Pyongyang, October 27 (People's Daily Online) -- The 17th Pyongyang Autumn International Commodity Fair opened today at the Pyongyang Youth Central Hall. At the invitation of the DPRK, members of the diplomatic corps and other organizations attended the opening ceremony. DPRK Minister of Foreign Economic Relations Yun Jong-ho, President of the International Exhibitions Agency Ham Ju-sop, and Vice President Paik Jin-seok were among those present.
Following the opening ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to North Korea Wang Yajun accompanied Yin Zhenghao on a tour of some of the Chinese companies' booths, where they listened to staff presentations on their products. Yin Zhenghao expressed his welcome to outstanding Chinese companies participating in the exhibition and his anticipation for further deepening exchanges and cooperation between North Korea and China in various fields, including trade and economics, to usher in a new chapter in bilateral relations.
Wang Yajun expressed his belief that, under the strategic guidance of the top leaders of the two parties and countries, exchanges and cooperation between China and North Korea in various fields will continue to deepen, better benefiting both countries and their people. He also expressed his expectation that Chinese enterprises will assist North Korea in advancing its national development strategies, such as the "20×10 Local Development Policy," and contribute to North Korea's socialist construction.
The Pyongyang International Commodity Fair is North Korea's largest comprehensive international trade fair, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations and organized by the Korea International Exhibition Agency. This year's fair, held from October 27 to 31, featured over 200 booths showcasing businesses and products from North Korea, China, Russia, India, Mongolia, Cambodia, Thailand, and other countries and regions.
