As part of the solidarity actions with Cuba after Hurricane Melissa , Venezuela announced the dispatch of 22 technicians from a multidisciplinary team to reinforce recovery efforts in the areas affected by the weather event.
Venezuela's Vice Minister for Latin America , Rander Peña, indicated that the members of the team sent to the Caribbean island are professionals in the areas of electrical power, transportation, and public works .
Accompanied by the Cuban ambassador to Venezuela , the executive secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA-TCP) indicated that the team of 22 professionals aims to restore the electrical grid and conduct assessments to continue sending aid to Cuba .
According to the Venezuelan official, the sending of the multidisciplinary team is a demonstration of his government's love and support for Havana .
" It must be very clear what the motto is: when Venezuela needs Cuba, it is there; when Cuba needs it, Venezuela will be there, " added Vice Minister Rander Peña.
Peña acknowledged the swift action of the Cuban government and people to prevent the loss of human lives due to the passage of Melissa .
“ Thanks to the quick action of the Cuban people and government , we can say that there were no human losses , unfortunately Melissa caused significant damage , we are talking about 70,000 homes affected ,” Peña commented.
He also stated that Venezuelan aid will continue to arrive in Cuba, adding , " The Cuban people should know that they will always have a brotherly hand in the Venezuelan people and government."
Condemns US military deployment in the Caribbean
When asked about the US military deployment in the Caribbean Sea, which he described as a clear threat to Venezuela, Rander Peña reiterated his government's condemnation of US actions in the Caribbean region.
“We condemn, not only Venezuela, not only Cuba, but all Latin Americans, we condemn the vulgar military deployment of the U.S. in the Caribbean, because it affects the peace that Latin Americans declared in Havana in 2014. ”
Peña referred to the letter that President Nicolás Maduro made public recently, in which he spoke of a zone of peace that Latin American countries should protect to prevent any military threats against Latin America from succeeding . “We will not allow it.”
According to Venezuela's Deputy Minister for Latin America, the way to prevent this is through actions that contradict everything the U.S. is trying to instill in the world's mind .
