Around 70 people will benefit from the return to Cuba of Operation Walk, an international humanitarian organization that offers free surgeries to patients with joint conditions, providing them with a better quality of life, the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap) reported today.
From October 31st to November 5th, the Fructuoso Rodríguez Teaching Orthopedic Hospital in Havana is hosting a team of leading international specialists who are performing live orthopedic surgeries and sharing knowledge through master lectures, in an environment of professional exchange and solidarity.
With the support of the local medical community and the commitment of the prestigious Orthopedic Hospital led by Dr. Roberto Balmaseda, this initiative has transformed the lives of hundreds of patients over the years, reaffirming the crucial role of international cooperation in health, the Cuban Ministry of Public Health (Minsap) reported.
Operation Walk is a volunteer medical-humanitarian organization that offers the possibility of regaining mobility through life-changing joint replacement surgeries, at no cost to those who need it in the United States and around the world.
During each international surgical mission, he trains local orthopedic surgeons, nurses, physical therapists, and other health professionals on the most advanced treatments and surgical techniques for hip and knee joint diseases.
This makes a lasting contribution to healthcare in developing countries and to date has served more than 17,000 patients from 25 countries.
This fall, we return to the place where our story began, the organization states on its website.
For the past 29 years, Operation Walk has performed more than 500 joint replacements in Cuba, transforming lives and restoring mobility to patients who otherwise would not have had access to this care.
“We are honored to continue working alongside our long-time partner, Dr. Roberto Balmaseda, and the incredible team at the Fructuoso Rodríguez Orthopedic Hospital. This mission represents not only a return, but also our commitment to continuous care, collaboration, and compassion,” the experts stated.
