Chinese doctors in Beijing have successfully performed a cross-provincial remote radical operation on a prostate cancer patient over 1,000 km away in east China’s Anhui Province
As surgical robots continue to expand their applications, remote operation remains a high-threshold challenge. MedRobot notes that a recent clinical case from Precision Medical has further bolstered this focus .
On October 17, 2025, the team led by Academician Zhang Xu of the General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army of China successfully performed a radical surgery on a prostate cancer patient at the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University, more than 1,000 kilometers away, by operating the Jingfeng® laparoscopic surgical robot and the Jingfeng Cloud® remote surgery system .
The significance of this surgery goes beyond distance. It demonstrates the stable performance of domestically produced systems in key areas such as long-link control, signal delay compensation, and intraoperative collaboration, and also makes the feasibility of remote surgery more realistic.
According to Elite Medical, the remote surgery system has been used in approximately 500 clinical cases domestically and internationally, covering multiple specialty areas including urology, gynecology, and general surgery . On October 18th, at the 26th Anhui Urology and Andrology Academic Conference, the team held a "500 Remote Surgeries Milestone" event to share their progress.
From transoceanic surgeries to nationwide networking, this series of practices shows us another mature path for domestic surgical robots in remote surgery - it is looking for a technological form that can truly be trusted by doctors through continuous clinical accumulation.

Beijing and Anhui join hands to eradicate cancer at their fingertips
Jingfeng Robotic Remote System Completes 500 Operations
This remote surgery was jointly conducted by the team led by Academician Zhang Xu of the PLA General Hospital and Professor Liang Chaochao of the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University. The patient was diagnosed with a prostate cancer. Before the operation began, Professor Liang Chaochao's team from the Urology Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University completed basic surgical preparations, including positioning, disinfection, drilling, and instrument installation. Then, over 1,000 kilometers away in Beijing, Academician Zhang Xu took control of the surgery. With effortless movements of his wrists and deft foot control pedals, he expertly remotely controlled the EliteFront® robotic arm in the operating room of the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University in Hefei , collaborating closely with Professor Liang Chaochao's team at the First Affiliated Hospital to perform the surgery on the patient.
During the operation, with the assistance of the Jingfeng® surgical robot and remote surgery system, the surgeon controlled the robotic arm in Hefei , thousands of miles away, with a clear immersive 3D high-definition surgical field, low latency, zero lag, and high precision. The multi-joint instrument arm and rotatable wrist surgical instruments, with stable and exquisite fingertip movements, accurately and meticulously cleaned the fat around the gland, opened the pelvic fascia, separated the bladder neck, freed the vas deferens and seminal vesicle, and severed the bilateral collateral ligaments and the apex of the prostate, successfully removing the patient's lesion and preserving the urethra length to the maximum extent.
Relying on the robot's intuitive master-slave teleoperation, the bladder neck and urethra were meticulously sutured, the urinary tract was reconstructed, and the surgery was successfully completed. Subsequently, Liang Chaochao from the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University traveled from Hefei to Beijing to perform another remote surgery, providing a two-way verification.

Jingfeng remote technology is fully mature and regularly used
Sustained successful clinical practice builds surgeons' trust
After the surgery, Academician Zhang Xu of the PLA General Hospital stated in a media interview that the domestic telesurgery system's performance in terms of accuracy, real-time performance, and safety was astonishing, and indistinguishable from local surgeries. The success of these 500 remote surgeries also demonstrates that the domestic telesurgery system's sustained and successful clinical practice has established a firm trust among surgeons in domestic technology.
Regarding this breakthrough in China's remote technology in the medical industry, Academician Zhang Xu also stated that the uneven distribution of medical resources is a common problem worldwide. China's remote surgery solution is not only technically reliable, but more importantly, it provides the world with a replicable, popularizable, and cost-effective Chinese smart medical solution.
In the future, China can export its technology standards through the Belt and Road Initiative, for example by jointly building telesurgery centers with Southeast Asian and African countries, thereby promoting a rebalance in global medical resources. By connecting high-end medical resources worldwide and collaborating globally to chart a "global health blueprint," the country can advance the vision of building a "community of health for all."
Professor Liang Chaochao of the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University also said that through the remote surgery system, high-quality medical resources can be effectively allocated across regions and levels, narrowing the medical gap and benefiting more patients.
In addition, at the 26th Anhui Urology and Andrology Academic Annual Meeting, Professor Tai Sheng of the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University also introduced the research led by the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University based on the Jingfeng® robotic remote surgery system under the title "Multi-center, Single-arm, Phase I Clinical Study on the Effectiveness and Safety of Urological Robotic Remote Surgery" . The research was published in the international authoritative surgical journal "International Journal of Surgery". The research results show that remote robotic surgery is a safe and effective surgical method.

Creates Guinness World Record for remote surgery
Promoting the building of a "community of health for all"
The achievement of the 500th remote surgery milestone is a testament to Elite Medical 's long-term commitment to resolving key core technologies. This surgical robot and remote surgery system integrates Elite Medical 's proprietary technologies in mechanical engineering, artificial intelligence, and high-speed communications. It has assisted domestic and international experts in performing 500 remote surgeries across multiple departments, including urology, gynecology, and general surgery. The system demonstrates exceptional stability and safety during ultra-remote, multi-specialty, and complex surgeries, achieving a 100% success rate and performance comparable to the world's best.
In China, in June 2024, a Chinese medical team led by Academician Zhang Xu successfully completed and demonstrated a transcontinental, ultra-teleoperative surgery from Rome, Italy, to Beijing, China, using this remote system, marking a milestone in surgical history. Currently, dozens of hospitals have access to this remote surgery network through the "Thousand Medical Alliance" initiative. Robot remote training centers, remote surgery centers, and remote control centers have been established at nearly 10 high-quality medical institutions, including the General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army, the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University, Ruijin Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, and the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine. This enables one-click connectivity between tertiary hospitals and grassroots hospitals to conduct remote surgeries, promoting the transfer of high-quality medical resources to grassroots hospitals.
Internationally, through technology exports, the country's domestically produced surgical robots and telesurgery systems, with their multi-departmental compatibility, clinical safety, and independent innovation, have helped countries and regions around the world, including Indonesia, Poland, and Brazil, achieve historic breakthroughs in robotic telesurgery. Just this past September, a 12,035-kilometer transcontinental and transoceanic telesurgery was successfully performed between Kuwait and Brazil, earning recognition in the Guinness World Records as the world's longest-distance robotic telesurgery.
These achievements, made possible by China's sustained research and systematic development in key core technologies, are a prime example of the deep integration and collaborative innovation of industry, academia, research, and medicine. They not only effectively promote the sharing and distribution of high-quality medical resources at the grassroots level, providing an effective path to addressing the imbalance of medical resources in China, but also contribute Chinese wisdom to global public health governance through a mature "China solution."
