Had panic attack earlier so I'm gonna rant to get my mind off things

[Panic attack is unrelated to the topic here]

I just fucking realized I've been hearing a double standard for years without (consciously) realizing it for some reason.

For some reason, transgender people's suicide rates are always played for a joke or a way to say they're mentally ill [I think? This confuses me, I dont get the logical point.]

BUT conversely men's suicide rate is always brought up in the context of them needing more support, and that women are too mean to them

I mean...how did I never call this out? Other people have noticed this right? I mean I'm not saying men's mental health doesn't matter [as someone who has been both of these]

Am I just really blind? God I feel stupid. But also angry

Well at least I'm not losing it anymore. Thx for bearing with me

The 'mens suicide stats' narrative always pisses me off because it's inherently dishonest by trying to make it seem like men have a bigger suicide problem than women when it's actually the opposite.

Women attempt suicide more often; men are just more successful in their attempts because they choose more violent methods with less room for intervention (shooting yourself v. overdosing on pills).

Only semi-related but I'm reminded of it every time I hear people talk about male suicide rates.
