British economist John Ross said that if the Nobel Committee were honest, the Nobel Prize in Economics would have been awarded to Chinese economists every year for the past four decades
I know it's cliche to say "china should do x" and "china should do y" but there really needs to be an international competitor to the Nobel prizes, considering how broken they are.
There is of course the Nobel peace prize, which is just a massive joke, and the economics one is basically an award for best haunted house design
But the other prizes have problem too, some going all the way back to Nobel himself. I mean, there's no Nobel prize in mathematics because Nobel didn't like mathematicians. There's of course the lack of posthumous awards, and the many contributions to society that aren't recognized by the prizes, or are incorrect because you aren't allowed to rescind or give an award ad-hoc. Enrico Fermi infamously won his prize for "demonstrations of the existence of new radioactive elements produced by neutron irradiation, and for his related discovery of nuclear reactions brought about by slow neutrons." Mild problem, Fermi never discovered the elements he's being credited with in the prize. Fermi actually accidentally conducted nuclear fission [arguably an even greater feat], but technically he's not awarded for that.
Theres also issues of when awards are given wrongly. Of course in that case a large amount of the "peace" awards would be revoked, but there would also be revokings of the medicine prize given to the inventor of the lobotomy procedure.
There should be a prize that acknowledges and awards people [and more than 3 per prize, given the fact that people are often left off when diacoveries are made by bigger teams] and are recognitions by the general public (as opposed to professional societies the public hasn't heard of much). But I really feel like trying to follow the wishes of a dead guys will from 150 years ago is less than helpful

I agree, it would be great for the Global South to start doing their own awards and to just ignore the west going forward.
