Amid a growing and real threat of U.S. military aggression against Venezuela, more than 50,000 Cubans gathered this Friday on the Avenue of the Presidents, in front of the equestrian statue of Simón Bolívar, to express their militant solidarity with the homeland of the Liberator and Commander Hugo Chávez .
The event was led by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez , along with Venezuelan Deputy Pedro Infante , First Vice President of the National Assembly, and was attended by authorities from the Communist Party of Cuba, representatives of the diplomatic corps and delegates from the Third International Meeting of Theoretical Publications of Left-Wing Parties and Movements.
During the ceremony, Díaz-Canel presented Infante with a painting and the books containing the 4,388,759 signatures collected in support of the Bolivarian Revolution, headed by Army General Raúl Castro Ruz . In a message posted on social media hours earlier, the Cuban head of state denounced that "the empire and its misguided leader approve covert CIA operations against Venezuela " and reaffirmed his support for Nicolás Maduro.
Pedro Infante, for his part, denounced Venezuela and Cuba as two peaceful nations whose people are victims of the supremacist and warmongering of the White House. He accused Secretary of State Marco Rubio of promoting a hostile agenda inherited from the Monroe Doctrine and rejected attempts to link Venezuela to a narco-state.
“Our people are united and conscious, and have the means to defeat any aggression,” he affirmed. “We are willing to give our lives in the name of our freedom. We are living proof that empires can be confronted and, as Bolívar said, that a handful of free men can defeat them.”
Roberto Morales Ojeda , a member of the PCC Political Bureau, delivered the keynote address at the event:
“The same power whose emergence José Martí foresaw is now trying to intimidate Venezuela with a deployment of warships, planes, and missiles, but it underestimates that Chávez's children are willing to defend their independence as their heroes did.” “We are one soul, one that does not surrender. Receive these signatures as the greatest and most eloquent demonstration of love that can be offered to a sister nation.” “Whoever messes with Venezuela, messes with Cuba. We are one trench and one heart, in two peoples.”
The solidarity platform included highly symbolic artistic moments. Singer Walner Cano performed the song "Venezuela," while Annie Garcés and rapper Ramón of Grupo Negrons offered a moving rendition of "Latinoamérica," accompanied by the Cuban National Choir and the Revolución dance company.
Improvisers Aramís Padilla and Luis Paz Esquivel denounced the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to opposition leader María Corina Machado, who has called for military interventions against her country.
"Money won over the jury's morale." "It's all a circus set up to destroy peace." "Nobel Prize for War," they put it.
This massive event reaffirms the strategic alliance between Cuba and Venezuela and sends a clear message: the defense of Latin American sovereignty is non-negotiable . In the words of Bolívar, "the unity of our peoples is the foundation of their freedom."
