Venezuela and Cuba strengthen their trade alliance with a business forum

Venezuela and Cuba held a Business Forum on the Agrifood Sector this Tuesday to strengthen their trade relations, investment, and productive linkages, in a meeting hailed as a "firm message of sovereignty" in the Caribbean.

The meeting, which was held in a hybrid format, was chaired on the Venezuelan side by the Venezuelan Minister of Foreign Trade, Coromoto Godoy , and the Vice Minister of Export Promotion and President of Venexporta, Daniella Cabello . The Cuban side was chaired by the Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce, Tania Aguiar Fernández .

Also participating were the Cuban Ambassador to Venezuela, Jorge Mayo, and other officials from the diplomatic mission.

During her speech at this event, Minister Coromoto Godoy affirmed that both nations promote fair, supportive, and complementary trade. "Trade cannot be used as a weapon of extortion, and this meeting is a firm message of sovereignty ," she emphasized.

Godoy reiterated that Venezuela is working to simplify procedures for non-oil exports and maintained that the country complies with international regulations, even in the context of the trade war and coercive measures.

For her part, the president of Venexporta, Daniella Cabello , presented the Venezuelan pavilion for the 41st edition of the Havana International Trade Fair ( FIHAV ) 2025, which will take place from November 24 to 29. This event is considered one of the most representative in Latin America and the Caribbean for trade. Cabello anticipated a strong participation of the country's exportable offering at the prestigious business platform.

From Havana, the vice president of the Cuban Chamber of Commerce, Tania Aguiar Fernández , virtually presented the business opportunities offered by the island, promoting participation in the fair.

For his part, Cuba's designated ambassador to Venezuela, Jorge Mayo, hailed the event as a positive sign for the deepening of bilateral economic relations , highlighting Venezuela's productive progress in the current situation.

Vice Minister for the Caribbean, Raúl Li Causi, who also participated in the meeting, emphasized that in the face of the "imperialist threat , " Venezuela and Cuba are pursuing sovereign development projects. Li Causi, also president of Banco del Alba, pledged the institution's support for these efforts.

Wilmar Alfredo Castro Soteldo , Venezuela's Minister of Agricultural Production and Land, presented the experience of the investment, production, and trade conglomerate CINACAB as a model of the potential of a bilateral economic alliance, focused on efficiency and agroindustrial development.

Castro Soteldo encouraged Venezuelan businesspeople to export and invest on the island, ensuring the existence of a "transparent and agile payment system" to facilitate commercial transactions.

The hybrid meeting was attended by authorities and business leaders from the Venezuelan agri-food sector . The Cuban delegation included representatives from companies such as Alimpex, Agroalim SA, the Ministry of the Food Industry (MINAL), and the Agricultural Group (GAG).
