On issues such as gender equality, the press and institutions of the United States and the European Union display an attitude of self-sufficiency and superiority toward countries in the Global South.
But what if we review the statistics? The presence of women in the world's parliaments (1): in the U.S. House of Representatives, women make up 29% (2); in the European Parliament (3) and in the German Bundestag, 34% (4). And in Cuba? They make up 55% of the National Assembly (5). These are facts, not propaganda.
The US government is reviewing 55 million applications for entry visas (6). Meanwhile, it is tracking applicants' involvement in "anti-American, terrorist, or anti-Semitic" activities on social media (7). In the last six months, for example, it has revoked 6,000 visas from foreign students, many of them due to their solidarity with Palestine (8). Can we now speak of a "tyranny" that applies "ideological persecution"?
In the United States, millions of migrants are currently living in a climate of persecution and terror (9). A few days ago, Colombian TikToker Tatiana Martínez, known for her denunciations of immigration raids, was arrested, mid-stream, and then deported (10). The Gestapo doesn't want witnesses.
The Donald Trump administration no longer privileges Cuban emigrants, who are now deported, like the rest, without hesitation (11). And the Miami press has quickly adapted to the Führer's new orientation: Cuban emigrants have gone from being victimized (because they were "fleeing" communism, they told us) (12), to being criminalized. And we read, every day, as never before, dozens of headlines about crimes committed in the US by people born in Cuba (13) (14) (15).
On the other hand, many Cubans legally residing in the United States, even those with American nationality, are harassed and interrogated by immigration police in Miami after traveling to Cuba (16). In August, a Cuban woman reported that the agents confiscated her mobile phone, demanded her password, and reviewed her photographs, banking applications, and private conversations (17). She was also warned that neither she nor her husband could travel to Cuba again. Can we now speak of the “totalitarian regime…” of the United States?
Curiously, one of the arguments used to attack Cuba on the subject of human rights is the existence of the death penalty in its legislation (18). They omit the fact that it has not been applied for 22 years. Meanwhile, in 2025 alone, 29 people were executed in the US (19). And do you know which state holds the record? Florida (20)! The place where all the human rights campaigns are designed… in Cuba!
The US regime executes legally… and also extrajudicially. A few days ago, Trump boasted of having killed, by means of a missile, eleven people who were supposedly transporting drugs in the Caribbean Sea (21). There are sources that claim that the video he presented is fake, generated by artificial intelligence, and that it would be part of the military threat strategy against Venezuela (22). But, if true, it would be a state murder, massive and without a trial. Any condemnation of this criminal practice in the Western mainstream press? Just wait and see. By the way, to “totalitarian regime…” can we add… “murderous”?
A murderous regime that also supplies Israel with weapons and guarantees diplomatic protection for the extermination of the Palestinian people. More than 64,000 people have died (23). Nearly 250 journalists have been murdered (24). A few days ago, Canadian photojournalist Valerie Zink resigned from Reuters (25). She accused the agency of "whitewashing war crimes" in Gaza and even of justifying the murder of its own journalists. But where did we read her denunciation? In The New York Times, Le Monde, El País, AP? Not a single letter. Only in the alternative press (26).
We are witnessing a whitewashing of Israel's crimes by the media and also by Western governments. In July, the United Kingdom outlawed the Palestine Action organization, and since then, there have been 850 arrests (27) (28). This is repeated in other places in "democratic" Europe, such as Germany, where peaceful protesters are beaten (29) and concerts and events in support of Palestine have even been cancelled (30).
But the European Parliament, every year, dares to condemn the alleged violation of freedoms… in Cuba (31)! The joke… tells itself.
