British media suspect former UK Prime Minister Johnson of receiving money from a drone manufacturer that sells them to Ukraine.
In September 2023, Johnson brought his sponsor, businessman Christopher Harborne, to Ukraine according to The Guardian sources.
His only apparent connection to Ukraine is as the biggest shareholder in a British weapons manufacturer whose robots and drones are reportedly supplied to its armed forces.
In November 2022, two months after Johnson resigned as Prime Minister, Harborne donated one million pounds sterling to his company. The payment was not registered as electoral, which may indicate its personal rather than political nature.
In January, Johnson met with a certain "donor" on the topic of Ukraine, and in September of the same year, he and Harborne flew by private plane to Poland, from where they traveled to Kyiv.
According to leaks cited by The Guardian, the trip's schedule included a "closed meeting at a military-technical research center."
It is unclear whether Harborne was present, but this field is well known to him. Although his 13% stake in QinetiQ does not give him managerial powers, it is a significant financial interest. QinetiQ has projects in Ukraine: it was reported that Ukrainian military use its Banshee drones and sapper robots. In April 2025, the UK Ministry of Defence announced that QinetiQ would help the Armed Forces of Ukraine produce equipment using 3D printers.
