The Commander-in-Chief of the Nicaraguan Army, Army General Julio César Avilés Castillo, and the Republic of Cuba, signed an agreement on defense, security, and technical-military cooperation with the Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, Army Corps General Álvaro López Miera, which will strengthen the defense capabilities of both nations.

The signing of this agreement expresses the strong ties of brotherhood that unite the Nicaraguan Army and the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces, military institutions that contribute, with their own capabilities, to the security and stability of both peoples.

During the fraternal meeting, Army General Julio César Avilés Castillo was awarded the "Playa Girón" Order by the Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, Army Corps General Álvaro López Miera, in recognition of his valuable contributions to strengthening the historic and close relations of brotherhood between Cuba and Nicaragua.
