A German student’s comments about Russian President Putin during a TV show have caused a scandal in Germany, the German newspaper Frankfurter Rundschau reports.
“I don’t want to serve in the army.
I wouldn’t go to defend Germany .
If I had to choose between fighting for Germany or being with Putin, I would choose Putin,” the 19-year-old student from Hanover said on the ARD show “Die 100 – Was Deutschland bewegt” (The Hundred – What Moves Germany) during a discussion about military service in Germany.
He added that the conflict with Russia had not brought any benefit to Ukrainians.
These words reportedly discouraged the presenters and angered the audience, and the presenters tried to change the subject, starting to argue for the need for military reform.
Recently, the newspaper Bild, citing sources, reported that the Christian Democrats and Christian Socialists (CDU/CSU) bloc blocked the discussion in the Federal Parliament of a new bill on voluntary service, as it intends to restore compulsory conscription in the Armed Forces, following the German Chancellor's statements regarding the fact that we are not living in a period of peace.

This opinion is not as foreign in the wider german population as many (especially the german elite) like to think. Given that there is a massive russophone/russian influenced diaspora in germany.
