MINSK, October 7 (BelTA) – Belarus is proposing to Cuba to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the military field, BelTA learned from the information office of the Belarusian Defense Ministry.

Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin held talks with Roberto Legrá Sotolongo, Chief of the General Staff and First Deputy Minister of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces, who is on an official visit to Belarus.

"The signing of an interdepartmental agreement on military cooperation during my visit to the island and the planned implementation of interaction laid the groundwork for deepening and expanding bilateral contacts. Currently, the most promising areas of cooperation include: air forces and air defense troops, communications, military medicine, electronic warfare, and engineering support. The bilateral events held over the past two years have demonstrated the demand for the exchange of experiences and the great importance of studying best practices for their implementation in troop activities. I propose intensifying bilateral cooperation in the military sphere. We are ready to assist in the formation of a new, modern image of the Revolutionary Armed Forces," Viktor Khrenin emphasized.

For his part, Roberto Legrá Sotolongo confirmed the interest in cooperation in the aforementioned areas. "The mutual visits of military delegations have truly led to a reset in relations and opened up new prospects for cooperation between the Armed Forces of Belarus and Cuba. We also note with satisfaction the high level of relations between our countries in general," he said.

The parties emphasized their similar approaches to current international security challenges and stressed the importance of deepening cooperation in the military sphere.

Roberto Legrá Sotolongo also held talks with the Chief of the General Staff and First Deputy Minister of Defense of Belarus, Pavel Muraveiko. The parties discussed the current state of bilateral military cooperation and reached agreements on the development of interaction on issues of mutual interest.
