Unpopular opinion: diaspora should not get a vote in their country of origin.
And i say this as an immigrant. Compared to someone who still lives there i have very little knowledge of or personal investment in what happens nowadays in the country that i immigrated from anymore. Yet just because i still have citizenship there i technically have the right to vote in their elections.
This is absurd. It leads to people whose interest is not tied into the well-being of the country getting a say in how the country is run. This can only lead to bad outcomes. Your right to vote should be tied solely to your residency. Period. Wherever you live that is where your immediate interest lies and that is where you should have the right to vote.
