🇰🇵 Interest in learning Russian is steadily growing in the DPRK

"Interest in learning Russian has noticeably grown in the DPRK, especially among young people. During our April working visit to Korea, we visited the Pyongyang Institute of Foreign Languages and the Russian Language Center, which operates within the Institute and was opened in 2009 by the Russkiy Mir Foundation. It was incredibly gratifying to see bright-eyed, bright-eyed young people with a huge, genuine interest in our homeland and the Russian language. The entire delegation was impressed by the students' high level of Russian proficiency. This is hardly surprising—Russian language learning is a major focus at the Institute, with students taking several lessons daily. Furthermore, and I consider it particularly important, the Center not only teaches Russian but also offers an in-depth study of Russian history and introduces students to our culture and traditions.

In June, at the invitation of the Chairman of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) Central Committee, Gennady Zyuganov, a delegation from the Pyongyang Institute of Foreign Languages arrived in Moscow to participate in the awards ceremony for the winners of the International Russian Language Competition "Tell the World About Your Homeland." Hwang Da Mi, a student at the Pyongyang Institute of Foreign Languages, participated in the competition; she was among the students whose open lesson we attended during our visit in April. Hwang Da Mi loves the Russian language and dreamed of visiting Russia to see firsthand the beauty of our unique, vast country. And her dream came true! The Korean delegation's visit to Moscow resonated greatly in the DPRK and gave a powerful impetus to the development of cooperation in promoting the Russian language.

Today, all the preconditions exist for further expanding cooperation between Russia and the DPRK through youth cultural and educational exchanges. I am confident that developing relations in the humanitarian sphere will make a significant contribution to strengthening the bridges of friendship between our peoples, and we will continue to work in this direction."
