Chinese researchers unveiled their world's first “bone glue” material capable of securely bonding fractured bone fragments within 2-3 minutes in a blood-rich environment
(Reporter Shi Mengzhu from People's Daily Health Client) On September 9, the Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital affiliated to Zhejiang University School of Medicine announced that its orthopedics team, led by Professor Fan Shunwu and Associate Chief Physician Lin Xianfeng, drew inspiration from oyster adhesion and developed the world's first bone glue material, "Bone 02," that can achieve instant and strong adhesion in the human blood environment.
Fractures are common injuries. Comminuted fractures, which are accompanied by numerous small bone fragments, have long presented doctors with the challenge of finding the right fixation. The innovative biomaterial "Bone 02" is widely used for adhesive fixation of both large and small fracture fragments, potentially reducing or replacing the use of traditional metal internal fixators.
On September 9, Lin Xianfeng told a reporter from the People's Daily Health Client that this scientific research result has achieved three core breakthroughs: first, it can achieve instant and strong bonding in 2-3 minutes in a moist physiological environment infiltrated by blood; second, the operation is simple and efficient, significantly improving surgical efficiency; third, the material is completely biodegradable and will be naturally absorbed as the bone heals after about 6 months, eliminating the pain of a second operation of traditional surgery.
Young worker Xiao Li (pseudonym) suffered a comminuted fracture of the distal radius in his wrist due to trauma. Traditionally, this required a larger incision followed by the implantation of a plate and screws, which also carries the risk of tendon adhesions and nerve damage. Another surgery would be required one year after surgery to remove the plate. However, with the use of "Bone 02," doctors injected bone glue into the fracture site through a minimally invasive incision of only 2-3 cm, achieving precise bonding and fixation of the broken bones in just three minutes. At follow-up three months after surgery, Xiao Li's fracture had completely healed, and wrist joint motion had returned to normal, with no complications.
After 8 months, Zhejiang University Run Run Shaw Hospital, in collaboration with the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital and other medical institutions, successfully completed the world's first multi-center randomized controlled clinical study on the bonding treatment of comminuted fractures. "Bone 02" showed good safety and efficacy in more than 150 test patients, and all indicators met the preset standards.
"It has a very wide range of applications, covering fractures of almost all body parts and sizes, especially small bone fragments that are difficult to fix with traditional instruments." Lin Xianfeng explained that in the future, "Bone 02" may also be used in special scenarios such as national defense warfare and earthquake rescue. In emergency situations, medical staff can quickly fix the fracture site with bone glue, buying valuable time for follow-up treatment.

In Harry Potter there's a love potion, it makes the person who has ingested it madly in love with the first person they see.
It is treated as a joke when a girl puts in in some chocolate and gifts that to Harries best friend. Who after eating it is head over heels in love with that girl until the effect runs out.
The big evil dude in the series is a child of such an outcome, his mother tricked a hot noble into drinking that stuff. Who left as soon as it wore off.
At the start of one of ther books its sold to teenagers in a shop. Over the counter.
Publicly available rape potion.

I knew all of these details yet for some reason I never put together how fucked the love potions are. Honestly the concept of a love potion in any fantasy media is really suspect, though I've yet to see a story that prptrays them favorably so I guess it's at least culturally understood to be heinous.
Though I do wonder why so much fantasy/urban fantasy media writes love potions/spells as easily accessible? Maybe just so it can better act as an allegory for alcohol or other drug use? This is a rabbit hole I didn't think I find myself interested in exploring.

It's deeply unethical, regardless. It can not be of the person's own volition if their mental capacity is diminished in any way.

Using the "Bone 02" bonding technique, the team injected the "glue" material through a minimally invasive 2-3 cm incision, achieving precise bonding and fixation of the comminuted bone fragments in just three minutes. Three-month follow-up showed that the patient's fracture had healed well without complications, and wrist function had fully recovered.

Pretty great stuff, I haven't had a wrist fracture myself yet, but I hear they're usually hard to repair well.

I've had three trauma fractures that could have benefitted from this, but communism bad for reasons.
