I wonder how China see this going in the long haul. India's foreign policy is not driven by any long term goals but by pure opportunism. Not many years ago India glibly joined an imperialist bloc that solely existed to encircle China which imploded because one imperialist in it fleeced another.
I think China will somewhat welcome this change but remain cautious. I cannot imagine them making any long term commitments because a core feature of multi-party liberal democracy is to turn entire nations into headless chickens. Chian must realise that this could fall apart in even a few months from now if US temporarily switches out the stick for the carrot.

I think China sees the opportunity to create more economic ties with India and use that as soft power to shift the political stance there to be more favorable to BRICS. The US is providing a unique opportunity to do that right now by being incredibly belligerent towards India. The same opportunism that drove India to the west can also keep it in BRICS orbit once the economic gravity shifts towards trade with the global south. The companies and oligarchs in India will want to continue maximizing their profits, and with the west going into economic decline, their only option will lie with BRICS.

I don't really see this as a positive, the Indians being included in BRICS and SCO is going to have the same effect as Turkey being in NATO. They're just going to be a roadblock to the objectives of the organisation in order to strongarm them for their own interests.
The Indian state should be made to change itself or at least it's leadership before it is allowed to hold sway among actually anti imperialist blocs.
I'm disappointed that this obvious future risk is being gambled on by the SCO.

My view is the opposite actually. It's much better if India is integrated into BRICS and SCO than being pushed into western camp and being openly antagonistic towards the global south. Meanwhile, the US is basically doing everything possible to cut off India's options to play both sides. As India's economy starts becoming deeper integrated with BRICS/SCO, that's necessarily going to affect politics in India as well. The less economic dependence on the west there is the less incentive there is to align with the west politically.
