DPRK announces that Kim Jong Un will soon visit China, invited by Xi Jinping, to participate in the events marking the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism and Japanese aggression.
Pyongyang, August 28 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, will soon visit the People's Republic of China at the invitation of Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and president of the People's Republic of China, to participate in celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
I hope they can repair their relationship. The cooperation and relationship fostered between the CPVF and the DPRK was touching even to the most cynical soul.

Mostly stemming from the time period where China was completely revisionist in the 90s/Early 2000s and siding with the US on sanctions and UN resolutions and the like. China also doesn’t like that DPRK has nuclear weapons and has joined its voice with America calling for denuclearization, insisting that it could protect its “little brother” with its nuclear umbrella. This patronizing and unprincipled attitude did not sit well with the DPRK.

Announcing this four days after "South Korea tells China it wants to normalise ties" is one heck of a message.
