Russia proposes to create a technology hub in Cuba

https://noticiaslatam.lat/20250716/1164507170.html

Cuba's Isle of Youth could be the headquarters of a cluster of companies in the Information and Communication Technologies sector of the BRICS Plus countries, as well as of the Eurasian Economic Union.

This proposal was made at a meeting in Moscow between representatives of the two nations, including businessmen, investors and members of government circles.

The project includes the creation of a technological hub - with the capacity to accommodate up to 15,000 residents, including specialists and students - with infrastructures such as offices, laboratories and industrial plants.

Its implementation would turn the Caribbean nation into a springboard for providing digital products and services to customers throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, reports Sputnik correspondent Victor Ternovsky.

sounds pretty cool, I have no idea what that could look like but it sounds cool.

Well, it could look like a small Silicon Valley where new apps come out to compete with US companies such as Google, Meta and X.

If this initiative is done properly, Latin America could finally shed away plenty of US controlled applications from social media to payments services like Paypal.
