The chuck-will's-widow is a nocturnal bird of the nightjar family Caprimulgidae. It is mostly found in the southeastern United States near swamps, rocky uplands, and pine woods. It migrates to the West Indies, Central America, and northwestern South America. The Chuck-will’s-widow feeds on large night-flying insects, especially beetles and moths, also many others. Also occasionally takes small birds, including warblers, sparrows, and hummingbirds. This bird is generally very quiet but there song sounds like they are saying “chuck will’s widow” with the first chuck being very quiet or inaudible at a distance. Here is a link to listen to this bird.
