The mountain bluebird is a migratory small thrush that is found in mountainous districts of western North America. It has a light underbelly and black eyes. Adult males have thin bills and are bright turquoise-blue and somewhat lighter underneath. Mountain Bluebirds have a simple repertoire of two song types. At dawn, often while flying, they sing a loud, emphatic, chirruping song similar to that of the American Robin. Throughout the day, they perform a soft, repetitious warbling that can last many minutes. In terms of calls, Mountain Bluebirds make soft, nasal, non-musical “tew” or “peu” note, and a high-pitched “tink” to communicate alarm. Like many other birds Mountain Bluebirds snaps their beak when diving at nest intruders. Here is a link so you can listen to them too. Side note, these birds are my favorite shade of blue 😊😊😊
