The eastern wood pewee is a small tyrant flycatcher from North America. This bird and the western wood pewee were formerly considered a single species. The two species are virtually identical in appearance, and can be distinguished most easily by their calls. The eastern wood Pewee’s Valley sounds like “pee-a-wee” sliding up then down in pitch. Then it pauses and adds a downward slurred “pee-ur” during daylight a male pewee repeats this song every 5-10 seconds. However before dawn and after sunset it sings more frequently and adds the ascending phrase “ah-di-day”
