Basically, what I'm trying to say is, for all the concessions it has had to make along the way, the US state still largely has the same interests and so a guy like this, who openly suggests reversing some of the most fundamental concessions, is more comfy to the power brokers than people would like to admit. I'm inclined to say that he represents the mindset of the real ruling class of the US (as opposed to the neoliberal PR-driven ruling class that purports to be "progressive" while largely moving in lockstep with the neocons); that they would prefer a return to the most aggressive forms of local exploitation, as it gave them more power. Especially now, in the context of their imperial form of exploitation being in decline. But trying to do this will only intensify the contradictions at home and further destroy their image on the world stage. The shoggoth that gets cut off from tendriling outward turning inward to feed on itself and consuming itself in the process. What he is trying to "build" will only hasten that process.
