Burkina Faso: Captain Ibrahim TRAORÉ orders the acceleration of road paving work through the handover of this new batch of equipment consisting of more than 200 machines.

The President of Burkina Faso, Head of State, His Excellency Captain Ibrahim Traoré, presented a consignment of equipment to the Faso Mêbo Presidential Initiative and the Military Engineering Corps on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. This heavy logistical support will bolster road construction efforts for development.

"Once again, in the name of the People, I hand over these machines to you. This makes two separate lots. One will allow us to pave the roads... and the other is for earthmoving."

"With the military engineering corps, you will see, both on your construction sites and on the construction sites of our defense forces, that we can move very quickly in the realization of infrastructure, for the benefit of our fighting forces and our populations," instructed the Head of State, as he handed over the keys.

Captain Ibrahim TRAORÉ thus orders the acceleration of road paving work through the handover of this new batch of equipment consisting of more than 200 machines.

In addition to bulldozers, loaders, shovels, drills, air compressors, the equipment handed over includes sweepers, asphalt transport tankers, pavers, graders, compactors which come into action in the paving phase.

This handover reflects the firm commitment of the President of Faso and his government to consolidate the Presidential Initiative for the development of the national road network, in line with the dynamics of the Popular Progressive Revolution.

The National Coordinator of the Faso Mêbo Presidential Initiative, Commander SAKANDÉ, assures of the optimal use of this equipment in the field, "with speed and ingenuity", in accordance with the vision of the President of Faso.

Do we know anything about how these were acquired in the first place? Aid, purchase, something else?

Shantui is a Chinese state-owned firm. Interestingly, they're owned by Shandong Province, not the central government.

Officially, I couldn't find any documentation explaining how Burkina Faso acquired the equipment.

However, I can speculate that they bought them using their state funds from their nationalized industry such as their gold mining state companies. Right now, gold is a very valuable commodity and the price has skyrocketed ever since the nationalization of their gold mines.
