The Bolivian government and the State of Israel announced the restoration of their diplomatic relations, after years of rupture marked by political tensions and regional conflicts.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar said during the ceremony: “Today we put an end to a long and unnecessary chapter of separation between our two sister nations ,” noting that since 2009, except for a brief period between 2019 and 2023, the two countries had not maintained official ties.

The agreement was formalized at the Israeli Foreign Minister's residence in Washington, with the participation of the Bolivian Minister of Foreign Affairs , Fernando Aramayo Carrasco, and the Minister of Economy and Public Finance, José Gabriel Espinoza .

Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz , recently elected, promoted this decision as part of his foreign policy, which emphasizes the need for strategic allies to face global challenges .

From the beginning of his term, Paz expressed his intention to reopen channels of cooperation with Israel . In that context, at the beginning of December, the visa requirement for Israeli citizens was eliminated, a measure that had been imposed in 2014 during the government of Evo Morales, when Israel was designated as a state sponsor of terrorism.

The re-establishment of diplomatic ties is interpreted as a step towards the normalization of bilateral relations , with a view to strengthening cooperation in areas of common interest.
