Over 40,000 pounds of construction material were delivered to the western Cuban province of Pinar del Río on Saturday by members of the U.S.-based HATUEY Project to support Cuban residents heavily impacted by Hurricane Ian last September. The HATUEY Project’s name (Health Advocates in Truth, Unity and Empathy) honors Hatuey, the Indigenous man who fought Spanish colonization and was burned at the stake in 1512 for his resistance. He is known as one of Cuba’s first heroes. ... read full post

Hurricane Ian has devastated Cuba’s western provinces of Pinar del Río, Mayabeque and Artemisa. All of Cuba was without electrical power for two days. The failure of old equipment, the lack of access to replacement equipment, the squeeze on the nation’s economy and the difficulty in acquiring replacement fuel — all of these problems are the direct result of the infamous economic war the U.S. has waged against Cuba since 1961 — a blockade that continues to this day. ... read full post

I'm just learning about this issue more.
News of the jointly developed vaccine is particularly exciting because of the two countries’ cooperative approach in a field that is highly competitive, secretive and totally profit-oriented in Western capitalist countries.
I have friend who's thankfully is open minded enough to not completely disown me for daring to go against his world views of Cuba. He grew up in Cuba(his family were not landowners) and moved to NA in the late 90s. He still has family in Cuba now and visits often but he is adamant his family, as well as the majority of people in Cuba are against the government. I know this is not true, or at the very least, confirmation bias from his side, as the PPC and the dictatorship of the proletariat would collapse if that's the case. ... read full post
“We have perhaps been too long installed in the denunciation and diagnosis, but Cubans need to know how we opponents would govern,” this is how they have presented this self-proclaimed government, where there is only one thing in common: the ambition for power, the hypnotic ego that ignores the collective sacrifice we make as a people to seek a deepening of the socialist rule of law, for which they have not contributed one iota; and yet, they seek its definitive destruction. ... read full post
