is Proton the only VPN providing a openvpn configuration? (preferably no U.S./Israeli products)

As the title says. Looking for a openvpn conf i can put on my router. I know Mullvad is dropping openvpn in 2026 so i look for alternatives.

The vast majority of VPN providers run on openvpn, unless they're very modern and have explicitly switched to something like strongswan or wireguard.

As far as I know, Private Internet Access will continue to offer .ovpn files.

I am still currently a customer, and I've had no issues with them, however be warned: they have a bit of a sordid history regarding who eventually bought them (Kape Technologies). Also, they're based in the US, which has been sliding towards Digital ID enforcement and fascism.

thanks but no. I'm trying to boycott all US/Israeli stuff

Might want to specify that in your post then, as that changes your options quite a lot I would think.

For those out of the know: what's the advantage of using open VPN?

Yes. You can get openvpn configs from proton.

Windscribe is Canadian and offers a bunch of options a-la-carte

Air is Italian and has port forwarding and is on a insane sale right now.

What router?

NordVPN works very well for me. I'm coincidentally working on setting up an openVPN with their guide, and so far it has been clear and easy.
