Not really, it's a way to shift the consumers to buy products from elsewhere instead of US. It's how you cut off the reliance of an unreliable trade "partner"

I mean China exists last I checked, and they've said they would like to do more trade with Canada. Instead, Carney keeps trying to fight a tariff war with China while bending over for the US.

Well, China-bad and all that, so for now we ain't doing that. If the material conditions worsen enough, public sentiment would change and I suspect he'll pivot. We'll see.

And that's the whole tragedy here because we're going to have to live through declining material conditions in order to do the sensible thing we should obviously be doing to avoid having to suffer.
