I don't really agree with replacing one country's capitalist big-tech with other capitalist big-tech. The FOSS alternatives I agree with, but not European big-tech.

Agree with it, always preferable FOSS, but even EU big Tech is lightyears better than US big tech, simply because privacy is a protected basic right in the EU, but not in the US. Even US tech is forced to fullfit GDPR to be able to offer their products in the EU. But the main reason to use EU products is to gain sovereighn over the US hegemony, as tech country on eye level not as subdites and mere consumer of US tech. The EU has excelent and even better alternatives to US products, only the need to use these. Its always better to use own local products before creating dependencies from third parties, more now with this nazi-dictator president in the White House and his idiotic tariffs

I don't see the EU as that much better than the US when it comes to privacy, especially Five Eyes countries.

Compare even the difference of US products in the US and US products in the EU
Eg. Microsoft US, as you can see, even using keyloggers
vs Microsoft EU also not so good, but way better, by law with high fines.

While true, these countries all share data, they aren't neatly compartmentalized.

You can easy check which data are shared and when datas are encrypted end to end, no knowledge, there is nothing which can be shared. Do you prefer Tuta or Proton mail, or better Gmail or Outlook? Your choice if you think it's the same.

Ideally we'd have a choice outside those. I understand the hand we are dealt, but that isn't a good position to be in, and means email can't be used for anything truly needing to be private.

Well, naturally there are more choices for mail in the alternatives to the US services and all of these are more private than these. Anyway, more with the current US policy and living in the EU, I always, if possible, to use also EU products, not only because privacy, but for sovereighnity which the US is currently destroying. Never good depending on other countries, less when they are turning crazy and arbitrarily. Mot so good for an free internet depending only on the US which dominate everything with it's monopoly. Sovereighnity on eye level is mandatory in this conditions, more if exist the capability. If not, there are always the US and their subjects in the rest of the world.
