Hope y’all had a nice Xmas. I hope everybody was nice and got presents. Santa brought me a coffee maker, which is a great gift because I am partial to a nice, hot cup of Java ☕️

The best cup of coffee since 1968
I wonder what happened that coffee got worse after 1968🤔

I dunno. 🤷♂️ Maybe instant gained in popularity? Anyway, I'm reading it the other way around: coffee got good again after they started producing their coffee makers in '68.

Reddit user Glass_Procedure7497 asked a question yesterday about which CNC machined razor he should consider getting to upgrade his Zamak DE89 clone (although it appears his clone might be more aggressive than a DE89/R89). Before I recommended the RazoRock Goat I wanted to do a comparison with my Muhle R89, which is supposed to be the same as a DE89.
Glass_Procedure7497 wants something milder than his RazoRock Mission. According to opinions on this B&B thread the Mission is actually more aggressive than a DE89/R89, so this is good news for Glass_Procedure if true!
My experience using my razors side by side is that the R89 sometimes feels more "bitey" than the Goat, while the Goat has a more consistent "gentle, but you know it's there" feel. For me, the Goat safety bar is its biggest downside, because even feeling it with your finger it feels "sharp". This makes it very difficult to tell if what you're feeling is blade feel, or just the sharp safety bar. I believe the feel of the Goat is all safety bar, and minimal blade feel. I've never gotten a weeper from the Goat, but I've gotten some incredibly close shaves on a consistent basis. One other thing to note about the Goat is that there is some drag. I think the drag is mostly from the blade -- it hits your whiskers at such a perfect angle that it doesn't let the razor move until the whisker is cut -- nothing gets skipped or missed. There's probably also some resistance from the sharp safety bar.
This leads to the question on whether Glass_Procedure wants less blade feel, or less efficiency for daily shaving. For some people, getting super close shaves can cause problems and it's common to confuse efficiency and aggression. Not all aggressive razors are efficient, and not all mild razors lack efficiency. In general, yes... aggressive razors are more efficient than mild razors... but not always. So it's possible that people who have problems with efficient razors (close shaves) really just have problems with aggressive razors (or, well, don't even get me started on blades).
The Goat has very good efficiency considering its lack of aggression. I still classify it as a "medium" razor, and if the safety bar felt less sharp I'd likely call it a Mild-Medium razor.
I hope this helps! The Goat has excellent build quality, a great handle, gives ultra great shaves, and has a unique feel to it.
Oh and by the way, I got a closer shave on the Goat side than on the R89 side, though both sides are good.

Prep: Proraso - Crema Pre Barba Protettiva (blue)
Bowl: Captain's Choice - Obsidian Copper
Brush: Semogue - Owners' Club Cherry Wood Boar - 24mm
Razor: RazoRock - Superslant - L3
Blade: Feather - New Hi-Stainless (1)
Lather: Barrister and Mann - Barrister's Reserve Spice (sample)
Post Shave: Floïd - The Genuine Aftershave
Post Shave: Zingari Man - Sego Unscented Aftershave Balm
Today's soap is Barrister's Reserve Spice by B&M. I'll go ahead and admit: I broke this soap. I scooped too little and added too much water. Luckily, I have plenty of soap for a future awesome shave. Despite my error, I had a decent shave with a nice Spicy scent throughout.
In today's satchel, I had a variety of soap samples: Scorpio Dragon by Van Yulay, and a bunch of the tiniest samples of Jordan's Shaving Soap (I think this is their sample set minus Cola and Black Licorice).
Really nice combination of scents. I should use my ZM soaps more often, it's such a nice base.
Happy Friday!

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.
Amazing full luxury shave this morning with Cerberus. What a terrific fragrance, and one that I used more than any other this year. I certainly hope that u/mammothben keeps this one alive somehow. There has to be another "head" out there to complete the three-headed nature of the Cerberus collaboration going.
