You ever watch a movie that has great action, great sets, great special effects, a great cast of famous good-looking actors, and yet you're like... that wasn't so great? There wasn't a good "something" there? It was missing things like... a good story. Well-written characters. A sense of place, and time.
The Lost Weekend is the opposite of that movie. Adapted from a deeply personal novel, helmed by a gifted director in his prime, and led by a hard-working actor who reached and went beyond his ordinary abilities. This is New York City just a couple years after alcohol got legal again and some people are learning they can't handle it.
This movie's from my grandfather's time, so it's old and dated but it was a good movie in its time, and it's still a great watch: there's a lot to learn about what makes a good story, and what makes a bad life.
