so anyway - I didnt post in quite a long while, so here I go yappin bout that one game i keep playin. there really is no reason to do good besides the good feels, and som peeps seem to not have that very much -..... so here we r.
imagine how fun and cool the world were if there would be a reason to play along nicely - like -... gosh, now that sounds pretty nice, hm? a world where slip-ups r oki - but bein systematically evil.,.. well - its actually bad for that peep.
but no! now instead, im considering stealing from supermarkets for my own benefit because there really is nothing holding me back from doing that. like - I dun wana! but if that somehow hurts the larger chain, im all here for it-.... iguess it doesnt hurt the larger chain so i should leave it,... but in larger - clearly profitable markets it feels fine-
feels so wrong.... or rather -.... doesnt feel so wrong anymore when u notice that all the big peeps r also bein evil. if that means that all the cool and nice peeps stay at the bottom which the cheaters and not-cool evils peeps get to rise, well like - that feels like the opposite of karma (or whatever that is called-)! theres clearly an inverted reward system happening here!
piracy and the like doesnt feel evil if the prices for watching the art legally is rising so sharply, but not to offer a better service, but to just.... make more mΓΆni.
this might sound really unlike a Lemmy user right here, but im actually not that opposed to a capitalist-like system, where exploitation and monopolies r somhow mitigated.... to be very clear: im from som country employing social democracy where most of the basic living this r cared for to some degree kinda for free, so i have more hope in that than a fellow 'merican πΊπΈππ’οΈποΈπ€π΄π΅πͺ¦π§π¨βπΌππ« might think about it, cuz im actually experiencing som of those benefits.
but like -,... i mean.,. of course id prefer fully automated luxary gay space communism, but for that revolution to take place, there r too many peeps to still convince. maybe its a bit too early for that- maybe a basic "heyo, we kill more CEOs and hope good comes of it" is more applicable ~
oh yea ohgosh I just opened a whole can of worms I probably shouldnt have. plz,.... be kind in the comments....

i don't think it's wrong or evil to steal from supermarkets. its merely illegal and will make some people mad.
i think we need to make an effort to build the society which rewards being being good and disincentivises/prevents being bad, but my ideas of good and bad are different from those of liberal society

not the kind of reaction I was expecting over a Sky: Children of the Light mechanic. I don't have much to say about utopian policies and/or ethics, but I can gripe about video games! I'm not fond of the effort required to earn anything in this game. After about a hundred hours in-game, I decided "am I about to spend another ten hours to earn enough candles for another pair of pants?" and decided to cut back quite a bit. Nowadays the only reason I log on is to chat with people, but most people logged in are too urgently trying to farm candles to hang out

ooooh, I mean like - yea, ofcourse-

I don't mind the fact that it has a reward structure so much as the difficulty to earn anything. The game Webfishing has a similar grindy reward path, but handles the social aspect so much better. You can earn most cosmetics in the game in probably less than an hour. Plus, why the heck can't you talk to people in CoTL without spending currency??

It's fine to steal if you need to. You should feel bad from stealing from a person, even if you need to, but super market chains aren't people. You shouldn't feel bad unless you're doing it wastefully
And yeah, of course you're less motivated to push past capitalism, you're living in capitalism lite. I'm glad you're not in a life or death struggle right now, even though that makes you less motivated
Just think of it this way... America used to have a safety net too. Now, we're seriously contemplating putting the homeless in concentration camps and prisons, so the rich can profit off their mere existence
You're closer to winning the fight, but if you let up you will still lose
Without knowing what country you're in, I can still confidently say the forces of capital are chipping away at your country and have made gains over the past decade

Exactly. And you have to carry through with your punches, like you're trying to punch through the target
So even if you'd be fine with a nicely contained form of capitalism (I think most people would be honestly) you have to target something behind it

i think i know wher op lives and living in the same country, i see the wellfare state degrading more and more. those reliant on wellfare are being scape goated for everything and social programs are being cut.
even to those who work payed jobs, rising rents and minimum vage increases that don't cover inflation make survival increasingly hard.
i don't think social democracy is ideal, even when it delivers on its promises, but it does not even seem to uphold them :<

It's because it's a fight. It's not over when you hit social democracy, it's never over.
We must constantly and consistently fight to keep power from concentrating in the few. Regardless of the system, we must fight to keep power spread among the people
The true answer is cultural. We must have a working system, and then we must have a culture that enforces values that prevent the concentration of power

i think the issue then is, that social democracy is a bad system for keeping power from concentrating, because both parlamentary democracy and capitalism disempower the masse and empower small groups. we would need a differen system, where both economic power and political power are spread out horizontally.

It's not perfect, but it can work with consistent effort. You just have to have good political engagement with your parties and to limit capital whenever it starts to concentrate too much
I don't think there is an inherently stable system, the forces we have to fight are corrosive and corruptive. They'll wear down what gets in their way and exploit any system we put into place
We just have to keep things clean. We have to do maintenance, and handle things proactively
