Yello - Oh Yeah

https://youtu.be/6jJkdRaa04g

Back in the eighties, I loved Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and upon reading the film's credits, I discovered the ending song, Oh Yeah, was by a band called Yello. In the spirit of irony, I went to my local record shop in Burnie looking to get a copy for myself. I purchased a cassette copy of 'The New Mix In One Go' (a best of album), and it ignited a lifelong love of the band that persists to this day.

Stella, the album from which it comes is also one of their best.

"Stella" was the first or second album I bought with my own money.

They still have a special place in my heart. Such weird shit they did with early synthesizers, with complete disregard of commercial success (the vocalist was rich). The lyrics are *cough* not very deep though.

Some earlier stuff:

Here's Bostich, their earliest hit afaik from their Solid Pleasure album (1980)

Here's Ballet Mecanique from the album Claro Que Si (1981), but I really recommend giving the full album a listen.

Here's Great Mission/You Gotta Say Yes to Another Excess from the album of the same name (1983).

I refered to him being rich because I'm not sure he still is. Probably some significant income through Yello, but I seem to remember that he is/was a gambler, or generally living the lifestyle he sings about.

I just mean that people mostly cite their 80s work, but they continued into the 2000s and 2010s.

Yello continued making music through the 2000s and 2010s. The album ‘Point’ from 2020 is pretty good, with ‘Waba Duba’ being the headlining track. The dudes' knees are obviously not as spry as they once were, though.

In similar news, Sparks also continue to crank out bangers: see e.g. ‘Missionary Position’.

The Eye is a brilliant album, too.
