I wish I'd known it was an option back when I had time and energy

All you have is time. Energy maybe not, but time yes. I hope you do what you need while you can.

It took me decades to get used to this body, and the mere thought of starting over just feels exhausting. So I just surround myself with queers and weirdos and share the love and support that I do have.

A different option to bring up is to start Estrogen and not worry about the other parts of transition till you feel more comfortable in your body. It's REALLY difficult to confidently say you're a girl to others when to yourself you feel so wrong. If you start socially transitioning when you look androgynous it's a lot less difficult.
I'm in a pretty conservative area and being thought of as crazy was something that I worried about a TON. If I were to be in my boy clothes and still semi passing as a man I would be a lot more accepted than I was when I came out.
At the very least it might be a good idea to start growing your hair out, just in case you change your mind about transitioning. You'll save a lot of time if you choose to use it. Also, men with long hair look cool as hell anyways 😎
I wish you the best 💖

I actually already have long hair. I'm also 195 cm tall, though, so that makes things a bit awkward, along with a very prominent Adam's apple.

That's fair. As long as the people you surround yourself with love you then it's ok to love yourself. Even if they didn't, it's still ok. Regardless, as a dad with a girl going through things I just hope you are happy and know that the people who love you want to be as well. ✌️

I wish I was trans because every woman I wind up even remotely attracted to turns out to be a lesbian.
