American farmers are just lazy and don't want to work anymore.

So the countries we export animal feed cornmeal and ethanol to are really gonna be sad. They will have to get that shit from one of the many other countries that want to be primary suppliers of the massive amounts inedible corn we turn into a few burgers.

It drives me crazy people don't want farmers to be given aid. We already get so much of our food abroad and thats only going to get worse. Farm gate values are absolutely trash and any smaller than large scale industrial farm is hurting bad. Wanting domestic farmers and agriculture to fail is the epitome of cutting off your nose to spite your face. You want a food economy completely dependant on foreign import? Good luck when we have the most trade hostile president in history.

Krono @lemmy.today - 10hr
Yeah I agree. Cheering this on feels good, because fuck Trump and fuck Trump voters, but it is so shortsighted.
The remaining small- and medium-sized farms are going to go under, and get bought up by the big Ag firms. We are speeding straight towards a monopoly on farming in this country.
The consequences of an Ag monopoly will be devastating for the environment, devastating for the economy, and devastating for anyone who wants to eat healthy food.

Remember those feelings around election time. More importantly remind them.
We’re all frustrated by devastation to the economy, the environment, our reputation and influence in the world. Some of us are getting really anxious about our longer term position in the sciences and technology, our culture, our law and justice, of what’s going to remain after the looters are gone, whether they somehow become a “political dynasty”.
But we didn’t vote for this and it’s getting much tougher to have sympathy for those who did this to all of us

LibertyLizard @slrpnk.net - 10hr
Were these subsidies going to small farmers though? Usually these things end up benefiting the giants.
2
Krono @lemmy.today - 10hr
Yea the subsidies disproportionately benefit the large corporate farms.
But they are also one of the last things keeping the small farmers solvent.

AA5B @lemmy.world - 8hr
Easy to say, but how do you get those farmers on board with that?
throws_lemy in news @lemmy.world
US farmers say Trump’s $12bn package not enough to undo damage from tariffs
https://www.theguardian.com/business/2025/dec/22/trump-aid-package-us-farmersBut is it enough to help the farmers forget about it come election time?
They’re cultural Republicans
Nothing would change the way they vote, nothing
I mean, what choice do they even have? Vote for the DEMONcrats?!??
/s
You have voters who are so brainwashed that even if they fully believe that Trump screwed them will still vote for the next GOP candidate.
At best, they will stay home and refuse to vote.
They have a proud heritage of voting to get kicked in the nuts by Republicans and blaming Democrats for it. Please respect their idiotic decisions.
The common clay of the new West.
In other words…
Morons
Asking the real questions!
But all a challenger has to do is remind them that Argentina got $80b from their “America First” president.
It's all the Democrats' fault, so vote MAGA again.
Doubtful, full price is what 28 billion in loss.
I'm tired of bailing them out every time they decide to screw me at election time.
Idk I think they should try pulling themselves up by their bootstraps instead of accepting a government handout
