Also as a tangent, they are very closely related to assassin bugs which I saw a blue one on my windshield the other day!
Funny enough I just saw my first one IRL just now! And it was much smaller. But this blue one has that piercing proboscis, is that for sucking xylem?

That's a leaf-footed bug. Assassin bugs don't have those flaps on their rear legs.
