You can safely ignore a lot of those sorts of "rules" that get reposted online, as they're often made up to make pedants feel superior. They range in accuracy from "this is how people in most standard/prestige registers use it" to "bullshit literally one guy 150 years ago put in his style manual because he was a fussy prick who jerked off to Latin books".
