It's a common trope in these sort of games, the more humanoid they are the more powerful the creature, favoring creatures that closer resemble the human species as superior.

Yes. Also hot furry guys. Occasionally less immediately sexy things too, but if it's high level someone is into it.
Side note, that cat in the animation was at least as strong as a pseudo legendary, and that's not all that impressive for a Digimon.

I always struggled to make the faintest of sense from digimon. Seeing this just I can only say: makes perfect sense.
Digimon evolutions rarely make sense.
