Xmail rule

bobs_monkey @lemm.ee - 12mon

Ah good, a mail service that scans your mailbox, determines if you're left leaning, and then doxes you to the Proud Boys/3 Percenters/Oath Keepers/etc. Fantastic idea.

151
Aurenkin @sh.itjust.works - 12mon

Strange, according to our Xmail analytics 90% of people are right wing fascist supporters.

69
_stranger_ @lemmy.world - 12mon

Oh good, they'll love it then because they won't have a choice.

20
Onno (VK6FLAB) - 12mon

Is it just me or is Elmo now just announcing random shit and hoping that by magic it just instantly exists?

120
DaddleDew @lemmy.world - 12mon

In 2013 he said that his cars would be self-driving by 2016 and has been promising that it would finally happen "by the end of this year" or "next year" ever since.

82
festnt @sh.itjust.works - 12mon

same with humans on mars, the hyperloop, the tesla bot, the [whatever else he promised/will promise]

22
Jumuta @sh.itjust.works - 12mon

yeah elon time is well known lmao

21
Jesus - 12mon

Offering email isn’t exactly like offering self-driving. Any moron can standup an email host in hours / days.

12
TotallynotJessica - 12mon

But have you considered that he's not just any moron? He's a special type that will somehow make it suck.

20
Laurel Raven - 12mon

Well, let's be honest, it's not exactly hard to make email suck. I'm sure he'll find some interesting and creative ways to make it suck worse somehow, though...

9
Jesus - 12mon

I’m sure this is all just a fast and easy way to get more data for his LLM.

5
TotallynotJessica - 12mon

Let's hope Xmail users use AI to compose their emails with AI then 😁

2
Taalnazi @lemmy.world - 12mon

Elon is good at promising.
What he's terrible with is:

β€’ being a family man
β€’ being not an asshole
β€’ how he evades taxes, leeching off others

8
SeekPie - 12mon

I think he's doing pretty great job at the last one.

7
Taalnazi @lemmy.world - 12mon

True, but I said "terrible with", not "terrible at".

2
Viking_Hippie @lemmy.dbzer0.com - 12mon

Other than paying much smarter, more skilled, and generally better people to do stuff and take credit for their work, throwing out random shit and demanding that others make it happen is literally ALL he's done professionally since he made a Space Invaders clone as a kid. That and self-promoting.

He's the richest man in the world and also the perfect example of the fact that the ultra-rich don't become ultra-rich because they're smarter or more talented or because they just work really hard.

Being rich already; ruthless opportunism at the cost of the health, happiness, and often lives of others; and shamelessly relentless propaganda is how billionaires are made.

22
Onno (VK6FLAB) - 12mon

That's hilarious and depressing.

The author of that page gave up in May 2021. I'm guessing that they sold their Tesla shares in utter disgust at that point.

Pretty sure that it still hasn't happened today in Jan 2025, despite people making adult movies in the front of a "self-driving" Tesla. Something that seems like a life limiting choice if ever I saw one.

8
Jesus - 12mon

Email would be monumentally easy to offer. Setting up an email servers is easy AF, and if he wanted to, he could chuck any number of free web clients on it.

My guess is that this is a fast and easy way to feed his LLMs with more content.

11
marius @feddit.org - 12mon

Gmail rival

It's called an email provider and there are already a million of those. Don't act like it's some fancy high tech stuff

103
prole - 12mon

I think you forgot who the target market is...

55
UnderpantsWeevil @lemmy.world - 12mon

Damn. Imagine an email service that makes actual emails impossible to find, but constantly bombards your inbox with the most hellish cringest spam imaginable.

He's reinventing Yahoo Mail. Real "Return To Tradition" hours. It'll be like the 90s all over again.

23
Jesus - 12mon

Rephrased: Elon Musk would like to scan the emails of gullible conservative’s to feed his LLMs.

70
Hossenfeffer - 12mon

"They trust me. Dumb fucks."

21
Diplomjodler - 12mon

I'd rather keep my food in Jeffrey Dahmer's fridge than my mail on Elon Musk's server.

69
magnetosphere - 12mon

There is zero chance that people will create filters that automatically delete anything with an xmail domain. Nope. No chance whatsoever. Anything coming from someone who uses xmail has to be worth reading, right?

65
Railing5132 @lemmy.world - 12mon

Hell, I just proactively blocked it from my company's tenancy...

4
LifeLemons @lemmy.ml - 12mon

Fuck big email providers. All my homies use proton mail 😎

We always have to remember that e-mail is a decentralized protocol. If so many people use one e-mail provider then e-mail will be less of a decentralized protocol and can be monopolised. I will hate it.

44
Senseless @feddit.org - 12mon

Or Tuta (formerly Tutanota) with my own domain. It's neither that hard to set up nor expensive.

10
LifeLemons @lemmy.ml - 12mon

Even proton has that feature for custom domain if paid for premium

First time heard of tutanota though

7
u/lukmly013 πŸ’Ύ (lemmy.sdf.org) - 12mon

Already is. I've even met a couple sites that only accepted GMail and Outlook addresses for sign-ups. And good luck making sure you don't end up in spam with something else.

9
irelephant [he/him]🍭 - 12mon

Out of interest, how does the spam find a self hosted email? If i, for example, only submitted it one two sites where it was never leaked, and i never publicly posted it?

1
u/lukmly013 πŸ’Ύ (lemmy.sdf.org) - 12mon

I mean that YOUR emails would possibly end up in spam of say GMail users.

1
JaggedRobotPubes - 12mon

Makes it trivial to spam filter it.

44
ayyy @sh.itjust.works - 12mon

Stop giving this fuckhead attention for vapor ware.

43
Interstellar_1 - 12mon

I liked it for the transfem joke but everyone here is just making fun of elon :(

39
Senseless @feddit.org - 12mon

The joke is good, don't worry. Elon on the other hand..

16
Spezi @feddit.org - 12mon

Is this the greek X? Because then it would be Chi-Mail (aka Shemale)

36
meco03211 @lemmy.world - 12mon

That's not how that's pronounced in Greek. It's just like Kai in Cobra Kai. Or the first syllable of the name Kyle.

19
π™²πš‘πšŠπš’πš›πš–πšŠπš— π™ΌπšŽπš˜πš  - 12mon

That's how English people pronounce it, because English lacks the "ch" sound in most dialects.

Greeks pronounce it as "chee", where the "ch" is pronounced more like the Scottish "loch" or the X in "LaTeX". It's not pronounced with a hard 'K'. Still doesn't really work for the "shemale" joke though, but a but closer I suppose.

8
tryagain @lemmy.ml - 12mon

You're 100% right and I would normally die on that hill right alongside you, but if it triggers the chuds, just this once, I'm on team "chee".

8
tryagain @lemmy.ml - 12mon

Well then that's even better!

2
Viking_Hippie @lemmy.dbzer0.com - 12mon

KyleMail would be a much better domain than xmail tbh. Especially if your name isn't Kyle. ESPECIALLY if you don't even KNOW anyone named Kyle 😁

3
Zess @lemmy.world - 12mon

The X is pronounced "twitter."

18
jaybone @lemmy.world - 12mon

This dude is fully losing it. I’m predicting some kind of massive meltdown very soon.

22
Dasus @lemmy.world - 12mon

What do you mean... "very soon"?

Isn't he actively in it? Dude is publicly calling King Charles to make the UK an autocracy lol, supporting German far-right groups, etc etc

56
hungryphrog - 12mon

He what?

2
hungryphrog - 12mon

Can we just send him to Mars already?

4
Dasus @lemmy.world - 12mon

Good idea. And I don't really even care how far the rocket makes it. Doesn't even need to achieve lift, imo.

6
captainlezbian @lemmy.world - 12mon

Give him the old Apollo 10

4
Dasus @lemmy.world - 12mon

Thats what I was visualising, lol, just couldn't remember the number so didn't put it in.

Nice

1
blind3rdeye @lemm.ee - 12mon

I'm not so sure. I reckon he's using a Trump-style strategy of just constantly doing and saying outrageous rubbish in order to dominate people's attention. i.e. He just wants people to be paying attention to him, and thinking about him, and writing about him, regardless of whether it is positive or negative.

I believe he is doing this as a deliberate strategy, knowing that even if a lot of the reaction is negative, it still means that he has the attention of the world - and that people will listen to what he is saying.

19
SkunkWorkz @lemmy.world - 12mon

Also his ultimate goal is to become a trillionaire. Because he thinks we live in a simulation and that he is the main player and he wants to beat the high score. And he found out the best way to achieve that is to create a cult around him. Tesla stock only soared to those heights because of him as a person not because the company’s performance. People are buying Tesla stock like it’s a tithe to the Elon church. And to keep people in the cult of Elon he sows division. The more negativity surrounding him from outsiders the more his cult followers will dig their heels into the ground and buy more of his stocks and products.

10
prole - 12mon

I'm a fan of ketamine, but some people are just too stupid to handle it. Like no, dude, you didn't discover the secrets of the universe, you took a drug and your brain dissociated from your body for a bit. Just enjoy it for what it is and move on.

5
CitizenKong @lemmy.world - 12mon

Yeah, I think the point where he will be trying to convert MAGA to his cult is when Trump will become his enemy. So far both think they can manipulate the other to help themselves, because they both suffer from the same narcissistic delusions and are sociopaths.

2
SkunkWorkz @lemmy.world - 12mon

Yeah he switched to pandering to MAGAts and the manosphere because he saw how easy it is to manipulate these idiots. Like ten years ago he tried to paint himself as a environmentalist but he quickly found out that people who care about the environment aren’t gullible

1
Bibbiliop @lemmy.world - 12mon

I never thought of this as that. Now that I think about it, in the early internet days there were many people who became successful and famous solely because they produced content which people reacted very negatively. So it goes back to the old saying no advertisement is bad

4
Scott - 12mon

I swear to fucking God, I will auto report every fucking email from their email server I get.

21
UnderpantsWeevil @lemmy.world - 12mon

Gmail is arguably the last good thing Google still has going for it.

19
tb_ - 12mon

Though still active, my Gmail now forwards everything to Proton Mail. It's not as nice, though very serviceable for the not-particularly-high volume of e-mail I receive.

14
irelephant [he/him]🍭 - 12mon

I just wish proton mail supported clients.

1
tb_ - 12mon

It does have a bridge for Windows to use with other clients, not so much for phones though

1
irelephant [he/him]🍭 - 12mon

Yeah, but its still paid. don't see why they cant do that instead of some other useless product that no one will use.

1
tb_ - 12mon

The bridge isn't paid?
You can also use Proton Mail for free, much like Gmail is free up to a certain storage point.

1
irelephant [he/him]🍭 - 12mon

I'm pretty sure you have to pay to use the bridge, thats what i was referring to. I use proton main on the free plan.

https://proton.me/mail/bridge

says there that its only available for paid subscribers.

2
tb_ - 12mon

Oh, my bad.

2
Suburbanl3g3nd @lemmings.world - 12mon

Having to use Gmail for work, I heartily disagree lol. What a piss-poor email system

8
Interstellar_1 - 12mon

I would argue that Google drive is also the last good thing Google still has going for it

5
just_an_average_joe @lemmy.dbzer0.com - 12mon

If it does not ask for a phone number, it could be a good alternative for temp email.

15
I'll be on ShareMySims@lemmy.dbzer0.com - 12mon

There are a lot of existing alternatives to temp mail, you shouldn't need to resort to anything he has to offer..

17
just_an_average_joe @lemmy.dbzer0.com - 12mon

There are but most of them are blocked anyways

2
PrettyFlyForAFatGuy @feddit.uk - 12mon

Doesnt protonmail offer this?

5
u/lukmly013 πŸ’Ύ (lemmy.sdf.org) - 12mon

You can create Google accounts without phone number using any Android device. Perhaps even emulator would do.

5
prole - 12mon

Right, but then the account is inextricably tied to your Android device, no? Which is just as bad, if not worse imo.

3
u/lukmly013 πŸ’Ύ (lemmy.sdf.org) - 12mon

But you can just use some old phone. Or perhaps emulator or something like Bliss OS installed on USB stick or in a VM.

But Google can and will probably link it with any device you log in on anyway. And after all, Android devices don't have to be used just by one person either. So perhaps removing the account from the device is good enough.

3
trashgirlfriend @lemmy.world - 12mon

I think it starts to ask you for a phone number if you log in on a desktop?

1
u/lukmly013 πŸ’Ύ (lemmy.sdf.org) - 12mon

Didn't do that for me.

1
HertzDentalBar - 12mon

Melon musk, the Stevia Jobs of Tesla. Owner of X, X, X and another thing called X

I don't think I wanna be provided a service that I know edgelord in chief will fuck with when he's salty.

13
Agent641 @lemmy.world - 12mon

Stevia Jobs is the harshest thing I've ever seen ol' musky be called

4
BarqsHasBite - 12mon

First thought is how bizarre.

Second thought is he's desperate for payments and/or data mining.

12
Avicenna - 12mon

nice litmus paper for forever ignoring people

9
hOrni @lemmy.world - 12mon

Obviously. Because buying twitter was a great idea.

9
pyre @lemmy.world - 12mon

I appreciate that that wording must have been annoying (if not painful) to write for a trans person but she still did it because it was too good an opportunity to pass.

7
this @sh.itjust.works - 12mon

I genuinely don't understand why anyone would go through the effort of switching email providers from one free spyware email provider to another free spyware email provider.

4
weeeeum @lemmy.world - 12mon

Is this satire? I genuinely cannot tell anymore

4
