YonderEpochs - 12mon

WOW lol, big fan of kids shows who put in some jokes for the adults, that is a spicy one tho!

38
Maggoty @lemmy.world - 12mon

Animaniacs was special.

33
gibmiser @lemmy.world - 12mon

A+

28
Captain Aggravated - 12mon

Goodnight everybody!

14
Walk_blesseD - 12mon

Congratulations, that's the joke.

2
Jesus - 12mon

I worked with a guy named Aaron Dick who who was cursed with always getting adick@hiscompany.com

Aaron was actually very nice.

103
dutchkimble @lemy.lol - 12mon

Someone whose name is Dick must face a lot of issues in addition to email IDs

31
pumpkinseedoil @mander.xyz - 12mon

His parents knew exactly what they were doing when deciding on a name with A.

19
brown567 @sh.itjust.works - 12mon

I worked in IT for a bit and the automatically generated emails were first initial last name

With manual adjustments in some cases, such as Sarah Hart (shart@...)

80
Railcar8095 @lemm.ee - 12mon

My company users first letter of the name and the full surname. I thought it was odd when I saw Gina.Ross@... Until I realized.

41
BeigeAgenda @lemmy.ca - 12mon

Just wait until she switches to fingerme@uwu.edu

67
Rhaedas - 12mon

It's just an invitation to use the Unix finger utility to find user info on them. Like a shortcut to a profile.

55
meyotch @slrpnk.net - 12mon

I have always made a .plan file on every unix-like system I have been on. Just in case I get fingered. Heck, even my at home single user devices have a .plan. Just to give the hackers a treat.

8
magnetosphere - 12mon

This is a priceless gift, Megan. Use it to its fullest potential, and great things will follow.

51
deadbeef79000 @lemmy.nz - 12mon

Once saw hadcock@example.com at an employer. On the other hand Hannah thought it was hilarious.

Hmm, that's probably enough to dox myself to ex-collegues.

36
boonhet @lemm.ee - 12mon

Okay if the ha came from Hannah, was her last name Dcock? Or was it Hannah D. Cock?

10
deadbeef79000 @lemmy.nz - 12mon

Hannah Adcock.

18
boonhet @lemm.ee - 12mon

Oh, duh. As a person who's had the same firstletterlastname format email at a company I've worked at, I should've realized that lmao

Mostly I get given my first name or full name. Getting just firstname@company.com feels pretty awesome when it's a common-ish name too.

8
deadbeef79000 @lemmy.nz - 12mon

That's a serious power move in a large org.

4
boonhet @lemm.ee - 12mon

Unfortunately that's always been in small orgs lol

Though in one that grew rapidly, I was in the last batch of people whose mugs had no last names on them. I think my employment contract was like #80 or something and 3 years later when I left, there were like 200 or 300 people working there

7
Davel23 - 12mon

I used to work with a guy named Paul Nessel who became "PNESS" on our network.

33
danekrae @lemmy.world - 12mon

The other way around would be cooler. Sounds like a pirate in pain.

29
aeronmelon @lemmy.world - 12mon

And then you’re suspended for an offensive username.

25
TheSlad @sh.itjust.works - 12mon

I really hope she was able to get a different email. Cause after this has made the rounds on the internet theres no way that address is even usable anymore.

20
Tar_Alcaran - 12mon

And the poor lady probably already had a childhood filled with name-based insults.

19
Caboose12000 @lemmy.world - 12mon

honestly this is your fault for having the last name finger. skill issue tbh

11
Sibbo - 12mon

Is this a US university? I'd imagine this Megan Finger here could sue for millions of punitive damages for getting such a username.

5
brown567 @sh.itjust.works - 12mon

She could probably just contact IT to get it changed...

33
Sibbo - 12mon

Yeah, or make a scene and be rich. What would you do?

3
zeezee @slrpnk.net - 12mon

contact IT and get it changed. who's got time to spend years in court to settle for three fiddy..

26
Maggoty @lemmy.world - 12mon

Most states have laws saying there has to be a chance to take a simple remedy first. So your case would likely get thrown out if you didn't go to IT and try first. It's when you give them the opportunity to fix it and they refuse that you get rich.

14
Swedneck @discuss.tchncs.de - 12mon

even without such a law everyone's going to think you're an idiot anyways and not bother with your nonsense, always get evidence in writing.

3
Annoyed_🦀 - 12mon

Contact IT and get it change. There's no way this is worthy of a lawsuit, let alone something worth million.

13
[migrated to PieFed] - 12mon

I don't understand why it's always in the millions. How the hell would this username account for millions in damage?

12
fl42v @lemmy.ml - 12mon

I've heard you guys hate puns, but dedicating a whole lawsuit type to them is a bit over the edge, IMO...

1
Chaos - 12mon

@uwu.edu is a very emaily of a college

2
