Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Bee-holder. I giggled out loud, which is rare.

Bro is holding bees. He’s the bee holder. Red circle is over his eye, indicating where the beauty is (in the eye of the bee holder)

Beauty is in the zygomatic, temporal, and sincipital bones of the beholder. Truly a profound saying.

It's clever, but the more obvious and approachable you make a joke like this the better it will land.
In this form it is giving, "ah, okay, got it, haha"

I find this kind of idea insulting because it’s essentially saying, you’re objectively not beautiful and ugly is my kink.
What’s better is to just say that you don’t care if someone is ugly, you love them anyway for other reasons.

I meant that if someone said that phrase to me, that’s what I’d like to hear instead because that’s just how I value the way they look at me. But yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder for sure.

I think you've fundamentally misunderstood the idiom. In what scenario would someone be telling this idiom directly to you in regards to your appearance?
This idiom is typically applied generally about the subjectivity or art, and occasionally in the defense of a particular piece of art on the grounds of subjectivity.
It isn't used to cast judgement on the appearance of a person, except maybe ironically/sarcastically.

Huh. A useful red circle. Don’t see those every day.
Red circle is around the eye of the bee holder
