There's also a mispaste of that under the "Empathy" header of that description.

Oops! I had best fix that :)

My Lemmy instance costs less than $20 per month. I'm happy to fork that amount over because I think it's a fun hobby.

Ada - 2.4yr
Ours costs significantly more than that!

Veraticus - 2.4yr
Well yours is much bigger I assume! I think we’re only up to about a hundred total users and average concurrency is obviously close to zero requests per second.

Ada - 2.4yr
Yeah, that's what we were like before the reddit migration, but because we had already been up and running for months by that point, we ended up absorbing a lot of users when they happened

Are you guys paying for the influx of users out of your pockets? Is there anything we can do as users?

Ada - 2.4yr
Well, we have a ko-fi setup, but ultimately, we're paying for it out of our pockets, yeah. This and blahaj.zone

Very new to Lemmy, what's a ko-fi setup?

ko-fi is just a site where people can give money to a person or entity

Paying for servers
Sorry if this has seen asked - I couldn’t find anything with Google. How do servers of this size pay the costs for hosting? Are they self hosted?
Thanks!
We host this instance and blahaj.zone out of our own pockets. We have a ko-fi so people can help out as well, but that doesn't cover all of the costs
For those looking, https://ko-fi.com/blahajzone is in the server description.
There's also a mispaste of that under the "Empathy" header of that description.
